Art and Design
Intent
Meadstead’s design and technology scheme of work is knowledge rich, helping children understand the role knowledge has in their learning and helps them remember what has already been taught and using this to deepen their understanding of the art disciplines. Our art curriculum also strives to be ambitious for all, develop independence, improve children to become effective communicators and promote an intercultural understanding of our communities. The curriculum is designed to be inclusive for all and give pupils every opportunity to develop their ability, nurture their talent and interests, express their ideas and thoughts about the world, as well as learning about the rich heritage culture of the British Isles and beyond. We encourage children to be confident to take risks, and be reflective learners who evaluate their work and the work of others.
Meadstead’s curriculum supports pupils to meet the National curriculum end of key stage attainment targets and has been written to cover the National Society for Education in art and design’s progression competencies.
