Governing Body Members

Mrs Amy Kitson

Chair of governors, lead on leadership and management and SEND

As chair of governors and a parent at Meadstead I have a keen interest in the quality of education and experience each child receives at the academy. I am fairly new to the governing body having joined in September 2013 and with three children all under the age of seven years I am definitely here for the journey! My background (apart from motherhood) lies in the public sector, in health and fitness and it has taken me all over the UK and beyond.

I believe the academy has a lot to offer the local community and with our links with the children's centre, can bring children from an early age on board with our values and ethos. So far, my experience as both a governor and a parent has been very positive and I look forward to us fulfilling our objectives and enabling each child to achieve and leave their primary education in the best possible position'

Ms Rachel Ward

Lead staff governor and lead on Outcomes, Assessment and Curriculum

My name is Rachel Ward and I'm Head of School at Parkside Primary Academy, Royston.  I'm passionate about education because it unlocks potential in all children, enhance me wanting to be part of the team at Meadstead.  I believe that every child has the right to the best education possible and this shouldn't depend on how much money parents earn or whether they live in the right postcode.  Every school can be a good school and as a team of schools in Royston we can provided the best for all children within our community .  In addition to my role as Head at Parkside, I am a Specialist Leader of Education for Tykes Teaching School Alliance in Barnsley, assisting leaders with school improvement.  I also work closely with Future Leaders, part of the Ambition Schools Leadership network.  When I'm not working I like to travel, read and watch Everton FC.

       Mrs Linzi Malcolm

I am delighted to have been accepted as a governor of Meadstead Primary Academy. I look forward to working with all those involved in Meadstead to ensure that every child is developed and supported to achieve success. I have two children aged 6 and 4 and understand the expectations of parents for their children. We share these same expectations and we are committed to giving each child the best opportunity to achieve their potential.

I have worked for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue for over 15 years predominantly around the Barnsley area. My current role is Station Manager at Barnsley Fire Station and district lead officer for Community Safety for both Barnsley and Sheffield.

Karen Stephens, parent governor
Ms Karen Stephens

Vice Chair/Parent governor and lead for Safeguarding

I am Karen Stephens, I live in Royston, I am married with two children, my eldest child has attended Meadstead Primary Academy and my youngest currently attends the academy. I work at Barnsley Hospital for 15 years as a Health Care Assistant.

 Mrs Zoe Popplestone

Community governor and lead for Finance
I'm really looking forward to my new role at Meadstead Primary Academy.  It will enable me to gain new skills and experiences in school systems and how the staff work towards delivering the best outcomes for our local children.  These children deserve the very best start in their education, in order to fulfill their potential in later life and contribute to society.

I'm very hopeful that the skills and experience I've gathered should be useful to this new role of academy governor.

Mrs Nichola Smith

Head teacher
As head teacher of the Academy i sit in the meetings but am not a member of the board.  However, I hold a slightly different position to the rest of the governing body as I remain accountable to the rest of the governors for my performance and that of the academy as a whole.  I have worked in education for the past 12 years and have worked in a secondary school, primary school, FE college and a Special school for children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health issues before beginning my journey at Meadstead.  I have two children of a primary age and feel this gives me a great insight to the needs of primary children and how we can provide an education that builds academic, charter building and life skills.

Governing Body Arrangements

Our Governing Body meetings are usually held in the evening on a bi-monthly basis and dates and times can be found in the calendar on the home page. We attend training sessions and seminars to help us keep up to date with changes in schools and education and to help us do our job effectively. We also go into the academy to meet with the head teacher, other members of staff and scholars to help us find out how the school is progressing towards its targets.

The clerk to the governors is Ms Charlotte Dalton and she can be contacted by email at cdalton@meadsteadprimaryacademy.org or by telephoning the academy.  If you wish to make contact with any of the governors then please approach Ms Dalton in the first instance and she will direct you to the most appropriate governor.

If you wish to know more, or are interested in becoming a governor at some point in the future, please contact us care of the academy office or email us at contactus@meadsteadprimaryacademy.org  You may also wish to have a look at the latest guidance for governors published by the DfE which explains in detail the role of the governing body.
